Honours in 2005
January 1, 2005 : Took over as the President of Indian National Science Academy, New Delhi for a three year term.
January 3, 2005 : Life Time Achievement Award by Indian Science Congress Association received at the hands of the Prime Minister.
February 4, 2005 : The first Lakshmipat Singhania-IIML National Leadership Award in Science & Technology by Indian Institute of Management, Lucknow. Received at the hands of the Hon'ble President of India.
March 4, 2005 : One of only twelve individuals invited by Science to write Millennium Science Essay on completion of 125 years.
May 6, 2005 : Delivered Alfred Deakin Innovation lecture in Melbourne, Australia The lecture was presided over by the Premier.
May 11, 2005 : Became the first Scientist to be awarded the Maharashtra Bhushan by Govt. of Maharashtra.
May 31, 2005 : Elected as Foreign Associate of US National Academy of Sciences. Only seven Indian scientists have received this honour so far.
June 2005 : Made it to the list of 50 top most influential people in IP in the world for the year by the international journal ‘ Managing Intellectual Property' based on a global poll (Third consecutive year).
July 11, 2005 : Became the first Scientist from Asia to win the Stars of Asia Award by Business Week . Presented on 16 November at the hands of George Bush Sr., former President of United States.
July 20, 2005 : Baroda Sun Award by Bank of Baroda (shared with Pandit Jasraj & Yash Chopra)
August 25, 2005 : Delivered the Keynote lecture at the Alpbach Technology Forum. Other keynote speakers included three Nobel Laureates and a former President of US National Academy of Sciences.
November 26, 2005 : Walk the Talk by Shekhar Gupta (NDTV). The first scientist after around 100 programmes to have been invited.
December 2, 2005 : Asutosh Mookerjee Memorial Award by Indian Science Congress at the hands of the Prime Minister during ISCA 2006, Hyderabad.
December 4, 2005 : Received Third World Academy of Sciences (TWAS) Medal.
Jan-Dec 2005 : Co-chaired the WHO Commission on IPR, Innovation & Public Health with Ruth Dreifuss, the Former President of Switzerland.
