Product: Design and construction system for ‘Karn Kuti’ - a low cost shelter in earthquake prone areas.
Application: Intermediate shelter for the earthquake victims.
Feature: It consists of pre-fabricated light weight steel beams, columns etc. made of ms angles. The cladding is done by using CGI sheets. The scheme has been perfected to withstand 140 km/hr wind velocity and earthquake forces as may be expected in Zone V of earthquake zonation maps
Commercialisation: About 2000 units erected in remote areas in Chamauli (Garhwal Himalaya) after the 1998 earthquake.
Economy: Plinth area 24 m2.
Investment: Rs. 0.20 lakh
Equipment: Welding set, light hoist, smithy tools
Raw materials: Rolled steel angles, bars, nuts & bolts
