Product: Process for making fireproof and durable thatch roof.
Application: Rural housing.
Feature: The traditional thatch roof is loosely bound and deteriorates fast. It is highly prone to fire hazard. In the improved method, the thatching material is pressed between two mats made of split bamboo having a spacing of 20 cm. The non-erodable mud plaster is applied on both sides of the thatch. The roof becomes safe against fire and lashing rains. It has a life of 5 yr., against 1 yr. for the traditional thatch roof.

Economy: The cost of fire-proof thatch is about 50% higher than conventional thatch.
