(11.1)   Raman Reseach Fellowship

(11.1.1)Nominations are invited from CSIR scientists who are working in high priority areas and have rendered minimum of 5 years service in CSIR for the award of RAMAN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP for study abroad.  The selected scientist will be sent on deputation terms. He/She will be entitled to (a) air passage in economy class both ways by Air India shortest route from his present place of duty to the place of training/research (b)Fellowship @ US $ 1200/- per month and (c) lump sum contingency of US $ 1000/- . The salient features of the scheme are given in the Annexure.  While sponsoring the candidature of the scientists for the Fellowship, the procedure indicated in CSIR Circular No. 18(270)/ 90-ISC.H dated the 29th January, 1991 must be followed and confirmation to this effect given in the letter forwarding the nominations.

Data sheet along with Bio-data and letter of acceptance from Host Institute (15 copies) of the sponsored scientist must reach CSIR Headquarters latest by 30th September. 1992.

SAILENT FEATURES OF RAMAN RESEARCH FELLOWSHIP 

1.    The Fellowship is tenable abroad at the CSIR cost.  During the fellowship period the Scientist will be called "Raman Research Fellow". He will be sent abroad on deputation terms.

2.    Eligibility Regular scientists of CSIR with high academic qualifications & research experience presently working in high priority areas who have completedminimum 5 years service in CSIR on the last date for receipt of the nomination and have made commendable contribution to research/innovation.

3. Fellowship Tenure  Three to Nine months.

4.  Thrust Area Applied research topics under high priority areas identified in 8th planand also any specific area under basic Science of relevance and immediate importance. The areas are

(a) Bio-Technology

(b) Oceanography

(c) Material Sciences

(d) Electronics including Micro- Electronics.

(e) Chemical Technology including Catalysis.

(f) Super conductivity.

(g) Hydrology & Water Management.

(h) Oil seeds.

5. Financial Terms Air fare to & fro by Air India in Economy Class.Fellowship @ US$ 1200 p.m. Lump sum contingency US$ 1000/-.

6. Mode of Selection Through interview by Departmental Committee to be constituted by  DG-CSIR. The candidate must furnish at the time of interview letter of acceptance from the host institution duly approved by the Director of the Lab./Instt. indicating the specific study/work to be carried out abroad.

7. Bond The fellow (Scientist) to execute a b6nd before proceeding abroad to Fellowship to serve the concerned Lab./lnstt. for three years on return.

(11.2)     Incentive to SC/ST Students

(11.2.1)   You may be aware that with a view to motivate bright Scheduled Caste/Scheduled Tribe students to take up Science study at +/ Junior College Level and exposing them to the excitement of research in important areas of Science and Technology, CSIR has introduced a new Scheme for cash awards to SC/ST students every year.  The award will be based on the performance of talented SC/ST students in science subjects at class X examination of different State Education Boards/ Central Board of Secondary Education where ever they exist.

Each award would consist of a Cash prize of Rs.3,000/- and an invitation to stay at a neighbouring CSIR Laboratory at CSIR cost for 10-15 days.

The number of awards for each State/Union Territory would vary between 2 to 8 as per the following distribution.  Population figure in each case will be based on the census conducted in 1981 of each State:

  1. 1.States with more than 1 Crore   population :
  2. 2.States with more than 1 crore population and less than 3 crore population.
  3. 3.States with more than 3  Crore population and less than 6 crores population.
  4.  4.States having more  than 6 crore population.                             
  5. 5.Central/All India Boards of  Secondary Education.  
    1. The Scheme will be operated through CSIR Labs./Instts. and your Lab./Instt. would manage the Scheme in respect of the following States (S) :
    2. You are requested to identify a scientist in your laboratory who will work as the contact point for the purpose of this scheme.  He will get in touch with the various State Boards/Central Board of Education or Department of Welfare of Central and State dealing with SC/ST students for identifying SC/ST students who will be eligible for receiving award as per the following guidelines (his name may kindly be communicated to us):
      1. The students (s) should have obtained highest marks in order of merits in the aggregate of science subjects at X class examination at the respective State Board of School Education/ Central Education Board as per number decided against each and as indicated above ;
      2. The selected students should have obtained at least 2nd class marks in science subjects and passed in all other subjects;
      3. (The student will pursue science courses at the + 2/Intermediate/Junior College level any where in the Country;
      4. After identifying the students's eligibility to receive CSIR award, a list of such awardees will be sent to CSIR Headquarters every year and the award will be given to the selected students at a function to be organised at your laboratory in an appropriate and simple manner.
      5.  The expenditure in respect of each award may be recouped from EMR budget of CSIR Hqrs.  The expenditure in respect of hosting the visit of the SC/ST students to your laboratory may be met from the laboratory funds.
