CSIR is inviting nominations for CAIRD Award 2020. (Last date of Submission is extended till 31st August 2021)

The Award…...

1. Purpose of the Award:
    

   The Award will recognize those outstanding S&T innovations that have helped transform the lives of the rural people or alleviated the drudgery of the rural people or have helped in generation of employment. Successful S&T innovations that are implemented at the ground level thus will be considered. The innovation applied for, should simultaneously have also broaden interactions among academic, R&D and rural financial institutions, industry and commercial sectors, and rural people and provide newer vehicles for participatory development.

2. The Award:
    

   This annual award consists of a prize of Rs. 10 Lakh, a citation and a plaque.

3. Eligibility:
    

   Any India Team, or an organization, or a company registered in India will be eligible to apply.

4. Selection Criteria:
    

   The technological innovation should have:

   • Created a paradigm shift in standards of quality of life or alleviated the drudgery of the rural people;
   • Demonstrated competitive advantage and positive user response;
   • Helped in generation of rural employment in the country; and
   • Show a new way of conducting business to achieve social and economic transformation in the domain of rural development.

5. Selection:
    

   For selecting the awardee, a two-tier selection process will be adopted. The initial screening, to shortlist the qualifying applicant out of the total application received, will be done by a committee of eminent experts representing diverse disciplines. The Committee will be chaired by an eminent rural development expert/ social scientist/ technologist/ member of the CSIR GB. The shortlisted applicants will be considered by a high-level expert committee chaired by an eminent rural development expert/ social scientist/ technologist/ Chairman of CSIR Advisory Board.

   The Award is normally presented along with the CSIR Diamond Jubilee Technology Award and Shanti Swaroop Bhatnagar Prizes.

6. Application for the Award:
    

   The application for the Award could be made in response to the Advertisement issued by CSIR which will also be available at CSIR website http://www.csir.res.in.The format of the application is provided in the Annexure.    The applicant while making the application for the award may please answer the following question in 250 words each using English language. The explanations provided should be easily understandable by an educatied common person. Also collateral material such as the organization’s / company’s annual report, scientific, technolgical trade and the media coverage on the technology innovation be included. The information thus received will be considered as coomercial-in-confidence and will be assessible to the Award Selection Committees, who shall be bound by a confidentiality agreement.

   1. Name, address, legal status and ownership pattern of the applicant.
   2. Title of the S&T innovation.
   3. The Scientific and Technical description of the S&T innovation. What makes it applicable to rural sector?
   4. Quantifiable and tangible benefits resulting from the S&T innovation (Give metrics for quantification).
   5. Features of competitive S&T innovation whetherin practice or not.
   6. How does the S&T innovation stand out from those of competitors (compare the features)?
   7. The impact of the S&T innovation on the life of Rural India? – On Community? On Employment?On Environment ? (How was this determined?)
   8. The significant scientific & technical challenges that were overcome in the development and transfer of the innovation.
   9. What risks were taken or investment made to develop S&T innovation from the concept to commercialization?
   10. Alliances and Partnerships that facilitated the S&T innovation ? How did they contribute?
   11. What is the present share estimated market potential of the S&T innovation? How was this determined?
   12. Details of Intellectual Property Rights secured and applied for (include abstracts).
   13. Scientific Publications emanating from the S&T innovation.
