About KRC

  • The Knowledge Resource Centre (KRC/Library) of CSIR-HQ, established in 1964, is primarily intended for scientific, technical, and administrative staff of CSIR-HQ. The prime objective is to acquire, maintain, and disseminate the knowledge and information available in print and in non-print formats in the fields of Science, Technology, and Management.

    The KRC provides reference and information services from its print and non-print resources comprises mainly of print books and journals, electronic resources, and online resources. Membership of the KRC is also open to research scholars, consultants, research institutions, and corporate bodies etc. on payment basis. The KRC remains open on all working days (Monday to Friday) from 9.00 A.M. to 5.30 P.M. The contact details for further enquiry are:

    KNOWLEDGE RESOURCES

    The KRC aims to provide accurate information from its electronic and print resources in the fields of Science, Technology and Management.

    Electronic Resources

    Online information resources of selective leading publishers are accessible through National Knowledge Resources Consortium to keep the scientists abreast of the latest developments and emerging trends in science and technology. The KRC has a separate collection of CD-ROMs on multidisciplinary subjects including complete collection of Indian standards.

    Print Resources

    The KRC has a comprehensive collection of print books on R & D management; knowledge management; nano technology; chemical technology; environment; food science and technology; biotechnology; ocean sciences; and information technology etc. The core strength of its collection lies in the special encyclopedias in the areas of Science, Technology and Management.

    The KRC subscribes to prestigious Indian as well as international print Journals in the field of Science, Technology, and Management. KRC has also online access to some of the subscribed journals. The KRC also maintains back volumes of print journals. The KRC has a special collection of Annual reports, brochures/pamphlets of CSIR and its laboratories to meet the information needs of its users.

    The users can search the bibliographic database and find specific information online of the KRC resources through Online Public Access Catalogue (OPAC)

    INFORMATION SERVICES

    Digital and Reference Services

    IP-based access to selective full-text journals and databases is available through CSIR-NISCAIR National Knowledge Resource Consortium (NKRC), a network of CSIR-DST libraries & information centres. The Online catalogue and the database of Indian Standards are available on intranet for the Council staff.

    The holdings of the KRC are accessible to all users through Web OPAC facility of CSIR-NISCAIR KNOWGATE project. The Virtual union catalogue is the gateway to the collection of all the CSIR KRCs. Reference queries are answered personally, telephonically; and through letters and e-mails. Users are assisted in locating and disseminating required information in paper/digital mode.

     

    Document Delivery Services

    The KRC provides the document delivery service through e-resources of CSIR-DST labs of NKRC and through union catalogues of CSIR KRCs of KNOWGATE & CSIR-DST labs of ICAST/NAL. National Union catalogue of scientific serials in India is also an ideal tool to access journal holdings of academic and research institutions in India. The KRC offers inter-library-loan service to the staff as well as to other institutions. It shares its print resources with member institutes of DELNET for lending and borrowing purposes.

    OPEN ACCESS KNOWLEDGE REPOSITORIES

    Open access materials are the excellent resources to supplement the KRC information resources.The CSIR-Central acts as a centralized facility for accessing institutional repositories of CSIR laboratories. Other important publications comprising of patents; publications; house magazines; annual reports; projects; and technologies can be accessed through respective websites of the CSIR laboratories.

    Similarly, Open access repositories of various Indian as well as international scientific bodies also disseminate useful information of their intellectual output through various databases; journals; and other scholarly resources.

    Annual fee : 500/- (Only for consultation)

    Special Membership (For Individual Member)

    Annual fee : 1500/- ; plus 3000/- security deposit

    Borrowing facility : Two books

    Institutional Membership (For Company & Institution)

    Annual fee : 3000/-; plus 6000/- security deposit

    Borrowing facility : Three books

    Photocopy is available to members against a charge of Rs 1 per page.
